Also known as the “King of Toys”, the Miniature Pinscher is fearless, alert and energetic companion dog. This is a compact, smooth-haired dog with a self-assured attitude and stately appearance. It is often believed that it is a cousin of Doberman Pinscher due to its appearance but that is not the case.

History and Domestication
In German “Pinscher” mans terrier and this distinct German breed originated centuries ago to hunt vermin from homes and stables. It was developed from Italian Greyhound, Daschund and Shorthaired German Pinscher. The Miniature Pinscher looks a lot like a mini Doberman because they were both developed from the German Pinscher.
Standard Physical Characteristics
The Miniature Pinscher is a compact, small and square dog. The head is in proportion to the body while the skull appears to be flat tapers towards the muzzle. The muzzle is in proportion to the head and strong. The dark eyes are slightly oval. The high-set ears are either cropped or left natural. The front legs are straight and small feet are cat-like in shape.
Care, Grooming and Health
The smooth and short-haired coat of the Miniature Pinscher is easy to groom and look after. Bathe or dry shampoo only when necessary and comb using a firm bristle brush. Dead hair can be removed by wiping with a wet and damp cloth. This breed sheds moderately.
Min Pin needs a daily walk like any other breed. Play takes care of their exercise needs but does not satisfy the instinct to migrate. They will also love to romp freely in a large fenced-in yard, off-leash. But ensure that the yard is high-fenced so that they do not run off in order to explore. This is generally a healthy breed but some lines are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia.
Living Conditions
The Miniature Pinscher is good for apartment living. As they are fairly active indoors, a yard will not be required. Protect them from cold weather.
Temperament
This hardy little dog and is proud and courageous. These dogs have a lot of energy, probably more than you do. They are small but don’t quite know it and are quick, active and have a lively curiosity. They are loyal companions and look after their family and bravely challenge intruders with their bold and insistent bark. The spirited and confident personality will both delight and exasperate its owners. With its lively curiosity and high-energy and intelligence, it makes a good watchdog. They act like toddlers often and need to be tucked into their crates. These dogs have a penchant for escaping and will always be looking for ways to get out and hence the owners need to be on their guard. They prefer to be treated like standard size dogs.
